Compassion and Zen
"The Zen Masters, in their single-minded desire to lead their disciples beyond the realm of dualism, would have them abandon the notion of compassion as such, since it leads to the dualistic notion of its opposite. By Zen adepts compassion must be practiced as a matter of course and without giving rise to the least feeling of self-satisfaction. Still less may it be practiced as a means of
gaining some heavenly or earthly reward." -John Blofeld

That is why is is written: 'Exert your strength in this life to attain! Or else incur long eons of further gain." -Huang Po ▼
